ABSTRACT
This study investigated the relationship between the utilization of digital technologies and the business performance of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Jiangsu Province, China. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining quantitative and qualitative research. The quantitative component examined the extent of digital technology adoption—such as financial technology, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and enterprise resource planning—and its impact on business performance. The qualitative aspect identified challenges faced by MSEs in utilizing these technologies. The findings reveal a positive correlation between the adoption of digital technologies and improved business performance, particularly in financial management, customer satisfaction, and internal processes. However, challenges such as investment difficulties, inefficiencies in financial processes, and customer service issues were reported. The study concludes that enhancing digital technology adoption can significantly improve MSEs’ competitiveness and business performance. Targeted solutions addressing the identified challenges are essential for MSEs to fully capitalize on the potential of digital technologies for long-term growth and success.
