THE TEACHING OF DANCE SPORTS IN HANDAN COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to assess and correlate the extent of implementation of Dance Sports teaching and the students’ extent of engagement and level of skills in Dance Sports. A mixed research approach was employed, administering questionnaires to teachers and students from four universities/colleges in Handan City. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive, correlational, and thematic analysis techniques. The results show that students assessed the implementation of Dance Sports teaching in various areas such as course objectives, curriculum content, teaching strategies, assessment strategies, classroom management as great extent while the teachers assessed these areas as very great extent. Furthermore, the students’ cognitive, affective and behavioral engagement in Dance Sports was assessed as great extent. In terms of their skills, the results show that they demonstrated high levels of proficiency in Dance Sports. Moreover, the implementation of Dance Sports teaching in all the areas is positively correlated with the students’ extent of engagement and level of skills in Dance Sports. Additionally, the main challenges faced by college dance sports teachers and students when engaging in dance sports activities were categorized into three areas: teaching strategies, teamwork and socialization aspects, and theoretical learning aspects of dance sports.
