ABSTRACT

The study aimed to investigate the participants’ extent of engagement in basketball speed training activities and their basketball level of skills. This study used a mixed-research approach which included quantitative and qualitative methods. The participants in the study involved the population of Physical Education Basketball students at Wangqiao Middle School at Anhui Province. A total of 150 students from the three levels of middle schools was covered in the study. Findings revealed that participants exhibited a high level of engagement in various speed training components, including speed, agility, technical transition speed, and attack-defense transition speed. Year level significantly influenced the extent of engagement in speed training activities, highlighting that students’ educational stage affects their engagement and training needs. Participants demonstrated high proficiency in dribbling, while they demonstrated moderate proficiency in offensive, shooting, and passing skills. This indicates that while students have acquired foundational skills, their moderate proficiency reflects the need for more structured and targeted training programs to refine these abilities. The moderate proficiency level suggests that students may require enhanced practice strategies and additional support to improve their technical execution and game performance. A significant positive correlation was established between the extent of engagement in basketball speed training activities and overall basketball skill level. This finding highlights that students who actively participate in speed training activities are more likely to exhibit improved basketball skills. The rapid application of technology not only improves the overall competitiveness of the team but also cultivates the students’ resilience in high-intensity games. The influence of speed training on the basketball skill of middle school students is all-round.
