ABSTRACT

This study explored the influence of the educational learning environment on college students’ learning engagement and level of satisfaction. The study employed a mixed research approach, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods. The participants of the study included 705 students from Dongguan City College. Data was analyzed using frequency, percentage distribution, the t-test for independent samples, and ANOVA. The findings reveal that the students’ assessment of their educational learning environment in terms of teacher support is low, while their assessment of school facilities and services is moderate. In addition, the students’ behavioral, emotional and cognitive learning engagement was assessed to a low extent. Moreover, significant differences were found in the students’ assessment of their educational learning environment and learning engagement across profile variables such as gender, grade level and program of study. The study also found significant relationships between educational learning environment and students’ level of satisfaction as well as their learning engagement. Moreover, the study highlights the significant correlation between the educational learning environment and students’ engagement, indicating that the quality of the learning environment plays a crucial role in fostering student engagement. The study recommends improvements in educational resources and facilities, adoption of student-centered teaching methods, and development of self-study habits by students to enhance learning engagement.
