THE HERMENEUTICS OF THE CHINESE FOREIGNMINISTER’S PUBLIC SPEECHES

Chunlei Wang

ABSTRACT

This study explored the hermeneutics of Chinese Foreign Minister’s public speeches, seeking to uncover the deeper meanings and rhetorical strategies embedded within these critical diplomatic texts. Given the pivotal role of diplomatic communication in shaping international relations, the research focused specifically on the nuanced interpretive dimensions of these speeches, which had been underexplored in the current literature. While previous studies provided valuable insights into China’s foreign policy and geopolitical strategies, the specific linguistic and rhetorical nuances of the Foreign Minister’s speeches were overlooked. This research addressed this gap by examining the speeches through the lens of hermeneutics, analyzing them in terms of literal, moral, allegorical, and analogical structures. The study sought to answer key questions regarding the context, interpretive structures, and meanings conveyed in these speeches, ultimately proposing a framework for analyzing public speeches in diplomatic contexts. This research contributed to a more comprehensive understanding of China’s diplomatic narrative and the strategic role of its diplomatic communication on the global stage.
