ABSTRACT
The study examines the relationship between motivation levels and amateur marathon training engagement among Handan City participants. A mixed research approach is employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods. Specifically, a descriptive-correlational design is used to describe the participants’ profiles, determine their level of motivation, and assess their engagement in marathon training. The results suggest that gender significantly influences extrinsic and intrinsic motivation levels, with males generally exhibiting higher motivation than females. However, participants’ year level does not significantly affect their motivation levels, as all year levels exhibit similar levels of motivation. The study concludes that motivation levels critically influence participation in amateur marathon training, with statistically significant effects observed across multiple training areas. Additionally, the study identifies several issues in training, including insufficient running volume, single training mode, irrational speed, improper supply strategy, and lack of targeted and systematic training.
