STUDENTS’ DANCE SPORTS COMPETENCE, QUALITY OF LIFE AND ENGAGEMENTS

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the relationship of students’ dance sport competence and their quality of life and learning engagement of college students in Handan Preschool Teacher’s College. It utilized the mixed research approach particularly the quantitative and qualitative research methods. The quantitative method was used to describe the profile variables, the dance sports competence, the level of quality of life and the level of learning engagements. The qualitative method was employed to analyze the problems and challenges encountered by the participants in their dance sports competence, their quality of life and engagements. It assessed their level of competence in knowledge, skills, and attitude towards dance sports, and measured their quality of life across physical, psychological, environmental, and social domains, and their extent of engagement in the cognitive, affective and behavioral aspects. The study investigated the relationship between the three key variables, and identified problems and challenges faced by students in relation to dance sports. The study found significant relationships between the students’ level of competence in Dance Sport in terms of their knowledge, skills and attitude and their quality of life in terms of their social relationships and health. Moreover, significant relationships between the students’ level of competence in Dance Sport in terms of their knowledge, skills, and attitude and their extent cognitive, affective and behavioral engagement.
