ABSTRACT

This study explored the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the Hospitality Management curriculum at City College of Huizhou, China, examining its effect on the attainment of the learning outcomes and meet the industry’s growing demand for AI-proficient graduates. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research combined quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative method was used to assess faculty and students’ assessments of AI integration and identify various factors influencing its adoption. Additionally, the qualitative method was employed to document the problems and challenges encountered by participants related to AI integration. Results indicate a significant curriculum gap in AI integration, affecting graduate preparation for an AI-driven workplace. Despite positive attitudes towards AI’s benefits—such as personalized learning and increased operational efficiency, challenges like insufficient training, inadequate resources, and resistance to change impede its integration. The study underscores the necessity for curriculum reform that not only aligns with evolving industry needs but also adopts innovative AI-enabled teaching methods. Recommendations include developing a comprehensive AI integration framework within the hospitality program and enhancing faculty training to support this transition.
