ABSTRACT

This research aimed to assess the implementation of the Basic Design course and the competence of the teachers at Hunan Arts and Crafts Vocational College. The study included 7 teachers, and 334 freshmen students enrolled in the Basic Design course for the Academic Year 2024-2025. A mixed research approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative method utilized a descriptive survey design to gather data on teacher profiles, the implementation of the course, and the teachers’ competence. The qualitative method involved thematic analysis to identify challenges faced by the participants and propose a plan of action for improvement. Results indicated that the teaching of the Basic Design course was generally effective, with positive assessments from participants in areas such as course content, teaching strategies, assessment, and resource utilization. Teachers demonstrated a high level of competence in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitude. The findings suggest a solid foundation for the course’s implementation, with opportunities for further enhancement through addressing challenges in the teaching process.
