ABSTRACT
This study investigated the relationship between the implementation of green initiatives by selected mining enterprises in Liaoning Province, China and their performance. This study adopted a mixed research approach, using quantitative methods to assess the implementation and of green initiatives by mining companies in Liaoning, China, and their performance levels. Moreover, the descriptive correlation method was used to analyze the relationship between the two, as well as qualitative methods to explore the main challenges faced by these companies in adopting and implementing green initiatives. The participants of this study were the employees and directors from the companies Huludao Zinc Industry Co., Ltd, Fushun Special Steel Co., Ltd, and Lingyuan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. The results of the study revealed that mining enterprises in Liaoning have implemented green initiatives to a very great extent, especially in energy consumption, waste management, and reforestation. Moreover, there is a significant positive correlation between the implementation of green initiatives and the overall performance of these enterprises, particularly in economic, social/environmental, and risk management aspects. Because challenges such as unclear responsibilities, insufficient funding and inadequate regulations impede the effective implementation of green initiatives, the present study proposes a comprehensive action plan to address these issues and strengthen the mining industry’s shift towards sustainable practices. The study concludes that green initiatives not only improve the ecological footprint of mining companies but also promote their long-term economic viability and community relations.
