ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the cooperative learning strategies in enhancing students’ interpersonal communication skills within the context of Oral English instruction in a local higher vocational college in Guangdong Province in China. It utilized mixed research approaches. A pre-test and post-test control group design was utilized for the quantitative approach. In the study, a teaching experiment was conducted. There are seventy-six student-participants involved in the experiment. After the experiment, the data were analyzed through empirical research. The study assessed the effectiveness of cooperative learning strategies in improving students’ oral interpersonal communication performance. The findings reveal that the cooperative teaching model and relatively improved students’ oral interpersonal communication performance. Further, the students show a positive attitude toward the cooperative learning teaching model by recognizing its effectiveness in improving oral interpersonal communication performance. However, students still encounter problems and challenges in utilizing cooperative learning in oral English class and practice, which need researchers’ further study.
