ABSTRACT
This study investigated the relationship between emotional quotient, pleasure, and English learning performance among college students. The study adopted a mixed research method and collected data from 440 students majoring in Business, Tourism Management, Mechanical Design, and Automotive Engineering at Pingdingshan Industrial Vocational and Technical College. The study made use of questionnaires which aimed to gather the participants’ profile, levels of emotional quotient, foreign language pleasure, and foreign language performance, and the problems and challenges encountered by the participants. The result shows that the overall emotional quotient level of the participants is moderate. Moreover, there are no significant differences on the various dimensions of emotional quotient when grouped according to profile variables. However, learning plans have a significant difference on foreign language performance, especially in English speaking practice. In addition, this study found a positive correlation between foreign language performance and feelings of happiness and joy. On the other hand, the participants encountered problems related to recognition of feelings, social skills, language adaptation, language learning, and foreign language skills. Based on the research findings, this study proposed an action plan to enhance emotional quotient, pleasure, and foreign language performance, including emotional management training, role-playing, and diverse learning resources.
