ABSTRACT
The Biochemistry Laboratory Inventory System is a web-based inventory platform specifically designed for managing and tracking chemical reagents, biological specimens, and laboratory equipment in the biology chemistry laboratory. The system is designed to automate inventory processes such as logging, restocking, and safety monitoring, ensuring efficient resource utilization. Through real-time updates, notifications are sent to lab personnel and can monitor stock levels, expiration dates, and the status of hazardous materials, minimizing risks of shortage or overstocking. The system also integrates safety data sheets (SDS) for each chemical, promoting safe handling practices. Interviews conducted with laboratory staff regarding the common issues faced in managing inventory revealed several key problems: manual tracking errors leading to shortages or overstocking, inefficient restocking processes, and the difficulty of maintaining updated safety records. The proposed system was evaluated based on the ISO 25010 software quality standards in areas such as functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, and maintainability, with results showing compliance to a “very great extent.” To further improve the system, the laboratory head and IT experts suggested additional training for end-users and integrating predictive analytics to anticipate future inventory needs. Given the findings, academic laboratories would benefit greatly from a system that improves inventory accuracy and ensures laboratory safety.
