ABSTRACT

This study aimed to explore the relationship between badminton skills, physical fitness, and competitive ability among students in the badminton program at Guangzhou Sport University. It examined how fitness components such as speed, strength, balance, and endurance correlated with technical skills, including grip, service, and footwork. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed to investigate these relationships. Data were collected from 273 students through skill evaluations, with the analysis accounting for gender and grade-level differences. The results revealed a positive correlation between physical fitness and competitive ability, with higher levels of speed and endurance associated with better technical performance. Grade-level differences were identified in areas such as service and anticipation, while no significant gender differences were observed. The study concluded that combining physical fitness training with technical skill development is essential for enhancing competitive ability in badminton. It recommended tailored training programs based on individual needs and grade levels to improve student performance. These findings provide valuable insights for training practices and curriculum design at Guangzhou Sport University and establish a foundation for further research aimed at optimizing athlete development.
