ABSTRACT
This study examined the relationship between students’ competence and their moral beliefs and practices in Ideological and Political Education at Guangzhou Railway Polytechnic during the academic year 2024–2025. Using stratified random sampling via the Raosoft calculator, 20 teachers and 200 students participated. A mixed-methods approach was employed: correlational analysis assessed quantitative relationships, while thematic analysis explored qualitative challenges. Findings revealed that students demonstrated very high competence across cognitive, emotional-attitudinal, behavioral, and interpersonal-social dimensions. No significant differences were observed when grouped by gender, year level, or program of study, except for moral beliefs and practices, which varied significantly by program. Results confirmed significant correlations between students’ level of cognitive, emotional and attitudinal, behavioral, interpersonal and social competence and their moral beliefs and practices. Challenges identified by participants informed the development of an action plan to further enhance competence in Ideological and Political Education in alignment with moral values.
