ABSTRACT

This study aimed to explore the relationship between entrepreneurial management strategies, related practices, and the performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan. Specifically, it focused on entrepreneurial management strategies related to innovation, risk management, strategic opportunity recognition, and resource leveraging, and examined their influence on financial performance, customer-related outcomes, learning and growth, and internal business practices. The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design and involved 30 SME employees and customers from the agriculture, food, retail, and hospitality sectors. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire and analyzed using appropriate statistical tools. The findings revealed that SMEs demonstrated an overall rating of “great extent” in the implementation of entrepreneurial management strategies, with innovation and risk management and adaptability receiving the highest emphasis. SME performance indicators showed an overall “high level” rating across financial performance, internal business processes, learning and growth, and customer-related outcomes. Pearson correlation analysis indicated significant positive relationships between entrepreneurial management strategies and SME performance, suggesting that stronger strategic practices are associated with improved organizational outcomes. Despite these positive results, SMEs faced challenges such as limited access to financial resources, difficulties in technological adaptation, resistance to change, and operational constraints. Overall, the results underscore that the sustainability and competitiveness of SMEs in rural settings are closely linked to the effective adoption of entrepreneurial management strategies, highlighting the need to strengthen strategic capabilities to support long-term business growth.
