ABSTRACT

This study investigates the employability levels of skills and competencies essential for careers in the hospitality industry, specifically focusing on management students at St. Paul University Philippines as a representative case. The research aims to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of hospitality management education and the overall caliber of graduates entering the dynamic and competitive hospitality sector. Through an exploration of the skills and competencies of hospitality management students, including soft skills (interpersonal competencies, basic skills, higher-order thinking skills, and personal qualities) and hard skills (resource management competencies, information management competencies, systems organization, and technology competencies), this study serves as a foundation for a comprehensive training development program. Furthermore, the research evaluates whether there is a notable difference in the level of skills required for hospitality industry careers when students are grouped according to their profiles and their competencies in hospitality management. Additionally, the study sheds light on challenges faced by students in developing competencies for hospitality management and proposes recommendations along with an action plan to effectively address these challenges. This research delivers valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and institutions striving to refine training development plans for hospitality management students, equipping them for success in the ever evolving and competitive hospitality industry.
