ABSTRACT

This study investigated the relationship between the extent of theoretical and practical teaching in innovation and entrepreneurship courses and students’ skill and satisfaction levels. Additionally, the study adopted a mixed research approach utilizing the quantitative and qualitative research methods. Specifically, the descriptive and correlational design for quantitative and thematic analysis for qualitative. Two groups of participants were included in the study: the 20 teachers teaching the Innovation and Entrepreneurship course and 220 freshmen, sophomores, and junior students enrolled at Zhanjiang University of Science and Technology. The study found that the theoretical and practical teaching in Innovation and Entrepreneurship course was implemented as great extent. It was revealed that there are no significant differences in the assessment of the two groups of participants in the extent of implementation of theoretical teaching in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship course in terms of learning objectives, strategies/activities, assessment methods, and resource utilization. Moreover, the students have demonstrated high levels of innovation and entrepreneurial skills and were highly satisfied in the implementation of theoretical and practical teaching in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship course. On the other hand, the findings also reflected that there are significant relationships between the extent of implementation of theoretical and practical teaching of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Course and the students’ level of innovation and entrepreneurial skills and their level of satisfaction. The study also identified problems and challenges that led to the design of an action plan to enhance the implementation of theoretical and practical teaching of Innovation and Entrepreneurship course.
