ABSTRACT

The health of college students is increasingly concerned by the public. Exercise and sleep are two of the most important influencing factors. Poor sleep quality has adverse effects on individuals, making it difficult to continue daily work and social activities, and even causing physical and mental diseases in severe cases. To understand the relationship between aerobic exercises and sleep quality, this study investigated the participants’ aerobic exercise engagement, aerobic exercise skills and sleep quality. A mixed research approach was employed in the study utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods. Using the stratified sampling method, the participants in this study were 240 students enrolled in the Physical Education College of Zhengzhou Normal University. The Adolescent Sleep Quality Assessment Scale developed by ASWS is a standardized tool used to measure sleep quality in students. Questionnaires to measure participants’ aerobic participation levels and skills were developed by the researcher herself and validated by three content experts. The results of this study show that the degree of aerobic exercise participation is positively correlated with both aerobic exercise skill level and sleep quality, that is to say, the higher the degree of aerobic exercise participation, the better the aerobic exercise skill level and the sleep quality of students.
