ABSTRACT

This study investigated the correlation between the extent of flipped classroom utilization and students’ engagement and performance levels in the Accounting Information System course at Pingdingshan Industrial Vocational and Technical College during the 2024-2025 academic year. It assessed the extent of flipped classroom implementation, students’ engagement, and their performance levels, focusing on teachers from the School of Economics and Management. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The quantitative aspect involved a descriptive-correlational analysis to examine the relationship between flipped classroom implementation and student engagement and performance. Meanwhile, qualitative methods employed thematic analysis to explore the challenges faced during the implementation. The findings revealed that the flipped classroom was implemented to a very great extent, with participants assessing the attainment of learning objectives, activities, and resources positively. No significant differences were found in participants’ assessments of the implementation of the flipped classroom. The students’ engagement in flipped classroom activities, including cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects, was also very great, with no significant differences based on gender, major, or class type. However, no significant relationship was identified between the extent of flipped classroom implementation and student engagement or performance. The study also uncovered several challenges, including digital divide issues, resistance to change from both teachers and students, time management difficulties, student accountability concerns, and challenges in assessing student learning and engagement. To address these challenges, an action plan was proposed to enhance flipped classroom implementation. Overall, the study concluded that the flipped classroom model effectively increased student engagement and contributed to a deeper understanding of the material.
