ABSTRACT
With the improvement of economic level and the improvement of people’s demand level, more and more people pay attention to the level of craftsmanship skills, and vocational colleges can cultivate students’ craftsmanship skills level. As a teacher in vocational colleges, the researcher hopes to continuously improve the students’ craftsmanship skills. Therefore, this paper assessed the students’ level of craftsmanship skills, internship performance and attitude towards craftsmanship. This investigation utilized a mixed research method of quantitative and qualitative approaches. Using stratified sampling method, the research participants were 350 students from junior grade of seven major in Hunan High-speed Railway Vocational and Technical College. Key findings revealed that participants demonstrated a consistently high level of craftsmanship across all measured dimensions, with creativity scoring slightly higher than other aspects. There were no significant differences in craftsmanship levels between genders, but significant differences were found among different majors. The study found strong positive correlations between students’ level of craftsmanship, their academic performance, and their attitudes towards craftsmanship. Students with more positive attitudes towards craftsmanship tended to have higher levels of craftsmanship skills and better academic performance. Several challenges in developing craftsmanship were identified, including lack of awareness about its importance, limited practical experience, difficulty balancing theory and practice, lack of mentorship, pressures from the educational system, and lack of engagement among students.
