ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine the sports consumption and valuing of students in the post-pandemic context and to discover its presenting challenges and opportunities which may serve as springboard to improve students’ sports consumption and valuing. It sought to investigate the profile of the participants when grouped according to their profile variables, the level of sports consumption, the extent of sports valuing, significant difference in the participants’ level of sports consumption and sports valuing, significant relationship between the participants’ sports consumption and sports valuing, and the challenges and difficulties encountered by the participants in their consumption and valuing of sports. The output of this study is the plan of action which can be proposed to enhance sports consumption and valuing of students. The participants of this study are the students enrolled in Physical Education classes at Harbin Institute. A mixed research approach was employed. A questionnaire and an interview guide were used in gathering the relevant data. Results show that participants’ level of physical and ornamental consumption is moderate while their participatory consumption is high. With regard participants’ extent of sports valuing, results show that their assessment is very great with respect to sports-related knowledge, and attitude towards sports value is very great. There is a significant relationship between the participants’ physical consumption and their sports valuing in terms of sports-related knowledge, sports benefits, and attitude towards sports value. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between the participants’ sports participatory consumption and their sports valuing in terms of sports-related knowledge, sports benefits, and attitude towards sports value.
