ABSTRACT

This study examined the relationship between engagement in Chen Tai Chi exercise and mental health among college students enrolled at the Confucius Institute of Belarusian State University of Sport. Findings revealed that participants demonstrated a high extent of engagement in Chen Tai Chi and strong skill levels. The results also showed no significant relationship between the extent of engagement and participants’ mental health or skill levels. In addition, no significant differences were found in cognitive, affective, and behavioral engagement when grouped according to gender and program of study. Similarly, participants’ mental health levels in terms of anxiety and mood did not differ significantly across profile variables. However, significant differences were observed in the dimensions of depression and stress.
Participants reported several challenges during practice, including uneven skill development, difficulty in cultivating internal energy, achieving unity of form and consciousness, and balancing theoretical understanding with practical execution. Addressing these concerns through targeted interventions may enhance students’ engagement, increase their exercise adherence, and improve their overall mental health.
