ABSTRACT
The study aimed to assess teachers’ level of competence in civic education. Mixed research approach through descriptive-correlational design and thematic analysis was used. The data were collected through survey with 55 full-time college teachers from the four schools of St. Paul University Philippines. Results of the descriptive analysis showed that the participants’ level of competence in civic education along knowledge, skills, and attitude is very high. In addition, inferential tests revealed that there exists a significant pairwise correlation among the participants’ knowledge, skills, and attitude in civic education. The problems and challenges encountered by the participants in teaching civic education include lack of student engagement and participation, limited opportunities in teaching civic education, deficiency in teaching resources and professional development for civic educators, and challenges in managing diversity and ensuring inclusion in civic education. Considering the study’s salient findings, the researchers designed a plan of action to enhance teachers’ level of competence in civic education.
