ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the students’ level of artistic skills and cultural appreciation and the extent to which teachers promote Chinese culture into the Gongbi Art Course as well as their level of competence at Jilin University of the Arts. Furthermore, this study utilized a mixed research approach employing both quantitative and qualitative methods. Participants included art teachers and students from Jilin University of the Arts during the 2024–2025 academic year. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and interviews. The results revealed that Chinese culture was promoted to a great extent in the Gongbi art course, particularly through its instructional objectives, teaching strategies, learning materials, and assessment methods. In addition, the teachers demonstrated a high level of competence in promoting Chinese culture into the course, as reflected in their knowledge, skills, and attitude. Furthermore, the students exhibited strong artistic skills and a high level of cultural appreciation within the context of the Gongbi art course. Finally, significant relationships were found between the students’ level of arts skills and cultural appreciation and extent to which Chinese culture is promoted into the Gongbi art course in terms of objectives, teaching strategies, learning materials, and assessment methods as well as the teachers’ level of competence in promoting Chinese culture into the course, as reflected in their knowledge, skills, and attitude. On the other hand, several challenges were identified, including limited teaching resources, time constraints, and teachers’ limited competence in delivering cultural content. In response to these findings, a plan of action was proposed to strengthen the promotion of Chinese culture into Gongbi art education.
