ABSTRACT

This study aimed to assess the Immersion Program of Zhejiang Ocean University and students’ industry skills. A study involving 20 teachers and 300 students assessed the program’s extent of implementation using a mixed-methods approach. Utilizing a mixed research approach that combined both quantitative and qualitative methods, the research aimed to offer a comprehensive assessment of the program’s implementation. The quantitative aspect involved a descriptive-correlational design, revealing that the extent of implementation of the immersion program was evaluated to a great extent. The findings indicated a “great extent” of program implementation and “high” levels of industry skills among participants, suggesting that engagement positively influenced practical skill development. However, challenges such as limited resources, inadequate teacher training, and safety concerns were highlighted, potentially hindering program effectiveness. The balance between traditional education and immersive experiences also posed difficulties. The research emphasized the immersion program’s benefits while pinpointing critical areas for improvement, suggesting that addressing these challenges was crucial for enhancing student engagement and ensuring graduates possessed the necessary industry skills for career success.
